China News Service, Beijing, January 17 (Reporter Li Jingze) The Institute for Advanced Study in Regional and Global Governance of Beijing Foreign Studies University, the British Studies Center of Beijing Foreign Studies University, the British Studies Branch of the China European Society and the Social Sciences Literature Publishing House jointly released the "British Blue Book" on the 17th. : UK Development Report (2020~2021).

The Blue Book pointed out that China-UK cooperation in multilateral fields needs each other and there is still a lot of room for development.

The Blue Book tracks the domestic, foreign, economic and social trends of the United Kingdom under the dual challenges of Brexit and the COVID-19 epidemic since July 2020, and conducts in-depth discussions on cutting-edge issues such as the development of China-UK relations and the changes in the international status and role of the United Kingdom.

In terms of UK-EU relations, the Blue Book pointed out that the new crown pneumonia epidemic has not only covered up some deep-seated problems in the relationship between the two sides, but also intensified some contradictions. The UK-EU relationship in the "post-Brexit era" still faces many complex challenges.

UK-EU relations have cooled more than expected.

In terms of economic recovery, the Blue Book believes that the UK's macro economy is showing a recovery trend, and its performance was once better than other major developed economies.

However, the repeated outbreak of the British epidemic since the second half of 2021, especially the outbreak of Omicron, has increased the uncertainty of the British economy in 2022.

It is undeniable that there are new challenges in the current China-UK relations, but the Blue Book believes that the problems are not the whole of China-UK relations. It even bucked the trend in many areas.

These situations show that China-UK cooperation in multilateral fields needs each other and there is still a lot of room for development.

The Blue Book further pointed out that 2021 is a landmark year for China-UK economic and trade relations, and the bilateral trade volume has once again set a historical record.

In addition to the continued pragmatic development in the economic and trade field, another constant in Sino-British relations is that the UK still wants to attach importance to cooperation with China.

In addition, there is still room for cooperation between China and the UK on multilateral responses to global challenges.

For example, multilateral interactions in areas such as climate issues, global health, and counter-terrorism are all important components of China-UK relations.
