The discussion around the hypothetical entry of Ukraine into the North Atlantic Alliance, for all its incorporeality, is beneficial for Zelensky, as it strengthens his internal political rating before the next presidential election, Mirzayan noted.

He added that Europe and the United States, in turn, do not need such a new ally, including because of unresolved internal territorial conflicts and disputes.

“Everyone understands perfectly well that Ukraine will not join NATO, because this automatically means the beginning of a war between Russia and NATO over Crimea.

Because Crimea, in their understanding, is an occupied territory,” Mirzayan said.

According to the political scientist, Ukraine, since the Budapest summit in 2008, has not come one step closer to joining NATO.
