A new underground volcanic eruption has taken place in Tonga, three days after the previous eruption, according to a monitoring service.

New Zealand has sent flights to Tonga to assess the damage after the tsunami caused by the previous eruption.

The previous eruption has covered the island nation with volcanic ash, caused power outages and cut off communications.

Up to 80,000 inhabitants may be affected, the Red Cross tells the BBC.

But no one is reported dead.
