Mohammed bin Rashid inaugurates Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated this morning the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit at the Expo 2020 Dubai Exhibition Center, in the presence of a large number of sheikhs and senior officials in the country and a number of heads of state, ministers and heads of international companies working in the field of energy renewables around the world.

In his key opening speech, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr. Sultan Al Jaber said, “The UAE is keen to seize economic opportunities for transformation in the energy sector by encouraging comprehensive strategic partnerships.

He added, "The forward-looking vision of the wise leadership to invest in renewable energy sources for more than 15 years has proven successful."

He noted, "The success of Expo 2020 Dubai in hosting the world and maintaining its safety in light of this global pandemic is truly a great and distinguished achievement in itself."

He stressed, “In line with the slogan of Expo, we are gathered here within a common will to create the future through connecting minds.

Al Jaber indicated that the UAE is home to three of the largest and least expensive solar power plants in the world, as well as adopting a low-carbon path to achieve sustainable economic growth, and is keen to accelerate the pace in preparation for hosting the COP28 Conference of Parties.

Al-Jaber added, "The UAE will follow a practical approach in (COP28) to achieve the required progress, and it will be a comprehensive conference that includes everyone."

He explained, "Masdar's production capacity doubled after the partnership between ADNOC, TAQA and Mubadala, and our ambition is to reach 100 gigawatts and then double it to 200 gigawatts, and we offer an open invitation to the world for the participation of the UAE and "Masdar" to achieve these ambitious goals.

He concluded, “If we want to succeed in the transition to the future energy system, we must realize that we cannot immediately abandon the current system.

Rather, we must have a realistic vision that keeps pace with our aspirations for the future.

And to look for solutions from those with practical experience in the fields of energy, and to always realize that our goal is to reduce emissions, not reduce growth rates and progress.”
