Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian considered that the spread of US forces and the Israeli aggressions impede the solution of the Syrian crisis, and called for the lifting of economic sanctions against the Syrian regime.

During his meeting with the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen in Tehran, Abdullahian said that the presence of US forces in Syrian territory and the Israeli attacks impede the path of a political solution in Syria, calling on the international community to shed light on this issue.

Abdullahian added that it is necessary to take the issue of the displaced and the economic sanctions imposed on the regime into consideration, with the aim of resolving the crisis through the right path, as he put it.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also said that his country has made real efforts to achieve peace and stability in Syria, considering that the United Nations is part of the path to a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

On the other hand, the Iranian Foreign Ministry quoted Pedersen as saying that Syria is witnessing stable conditions, and no one is talking about regime change in it, stressing the importance of preserving national sovereignty, political stability and preserving the unity of Syrian territory, according to the agency.

Russian media reported on Friday that Pedersen discussed, in a telephone conversation with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, ways to solve the crisis in Syria politically, under the auspices of the United Nations and in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254.

The American forces stationed in Deir ez-Zor (eastern Syria) have been subjected to several attacks in the recent period, the most recent of which was the fall of several shells on Saturday on the American base inside the Al-Omar oil field, and it is not yet clear who is responsible for the attack.

It is noteworthy that Deir ez-Zor province, located on the border with Iraq, is a strategic supply route for armed factions backed by Iran, which send reinforcements to Syria on a regular basis to support the regime.
