The organization said in a statement - Al-Jazeera Net received a copy of it - that Engineer Hossam Salam was arrested by the Sudanese authorities at Khartoum Airport on Wednesday, January 12th, before he was allowed to resume his flight to Turkey via the Badr Airlines flight, which It bears the number (J4690) heading from Khartoum to Istanbul.

According to the Sudanese Badr Air Company’s version published on its official account on Facebook, its aforementioned flight to Istanbul from Khartoum Airport on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, was forced to land at Luxor International Airport in Egypt.

This came after the flight commander informed the passengers that there was a technical problem that required the plane to make an emergency landing at Luxor Airport in Egypt, as a result of a “false” warning from the smoke detection system in the cargo cabin, according to the company’s statement.

Later, it issued a second statement in which it partially retracted from the previous one, in which it announced the detention of the young man by the Egyptian authorities, Hossam Menoufy, justifying this procedure by saying that when boarding the alternative plane, the Egyptian authorities made it part of the travel procedures as applied in the flight regulations, and this led to the arrest of the aforementioned passenger. .

According to testimonies obtained by the human rights organization “We are Recording” from passengers on board the plane, they did not hear the sound of alarms on the plane that prompted it to make an emergency landing, and that when the passengers disembarked at Luxor Airport, the airport security staff looked at the travel documents of the Egyptian passengers, and then arrested the engineer, Hossam Salam. They took him to the National Security office at the airport.

The organization stated that communication with engineer Hossam Salam has been cut off since his arrest at the airport and interrogation by the National Security Agency.

It is noteworthy that Salam was born in Menoufia Governorate, and lives in the Dokki neighborhood in Giza Governorate. He left Egypt 5 years ago and resides with his family in the Sudanese city of Khartoum, and was on his way to the Turkish city of Istanbul on a business trip.

Local newspapers also reported - quoting an Egyptian official - that the passengers of a Sudanese plane that had made an emergency landing at Luxor International Airport (south of the country) left the airport on Thursday morning.

The Director of the General Department of Crisis and Disasters at the General Court of Luxor Governorate, Mohsen Al-Shami, said that the 135 passengers of the Sudanese Badr Company plane - numbering 135 passengers of different nationalities - completed their scheduled trip from the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, to Istanbul, Turkey.

The Egyptian official pointed out that at 4:40 am on Thursday morning local time (02.40 GMT), the passengers departed on an alternative plane, while the first plane remained under technical examination at Luxor International Airport.

The incident angered social media activists, who denounced the incident and held the Egyptian airline and government fully responsible for the life of the Egyptian youth, Hossam Salam.
