Egypt reveals from “Expo” the operation of the entire Sokhna area next year

The head of the General Authority for the Economic Zone of the Egyptian Suez Canal, Yehia Zaki, said that Egypt will celebrate next year the full operation of the major areas of this giant project being built in the east of the country.

Zaki added, during a special conference organized by the Egyptian pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, yesterday, at the Dubai Exhibition Center, that “the integrated area of ​​Sokhna, which is located east of Cairo near the new administrative capital, for which Egypt wants to be a new kiss of life, will become fully operational.” In the year 2023.”

Zaki continued: "We rely on the Suez Canal Economic Zone project on two important areas, explaining that the first is the integrated area of ​​Sokhna, which is the largest area in the economic zone, with an area of ​​210 square kilometers and includes the port of Sokhna, which is the largest port in Egypt."

He indicated that this area is now partially operational and will be fully operational next year.

The Egyptian official stated that the second area is east of Port Said, which is located in northeastern Egypt on the Mediterranean coast, where the northern entrance to the Suez Canal is.

Zaki explained that the economic zone includes six ports and four economic zones, and represents a "great platform to attract the economic and logistical sectors with a global infrastructure that seeks to attract 15 different sectors that contribute to enhancing the region's role in supporting global trade."

Vision

In statements to the "Expo" news service, Zaki said: "When the Suez Canal Economic Zone was established in 2015, we had a vision that this would be achieved in 2030, and that we would continue our work until 2050." The first five, and we have modified some dates to suit the stage that enables the economic zone to achieve its goals and help investors carry out their projects.”

"Green Channel"

For his part, the head of the Suez Canal Authority, Lieutenant-General Osama Rabie, said during the conference that the authority aims to transform the Suez Canal, one of the most important arteries of global trade, into a “green channel” through the “Strategy 2030” by providing navigational incentives for ships that respect environmental standards. .

He added, "Points and discounts will be granted to ships ranging between 10 and 20%, but they are still under study, and we will give the ships environmental certificates and financial and other incentives."

Rabie pointed out that the Suez Canal has also introduced the use of renewable energy means such as solar energy and wind energy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
