“We have put on the table a proposal to hold a series of meetings on topics important for European security, the situation in and around Ukraine,” he said in an interview with CBC television.
According to the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Moscow did not reject the proposals, but did not undertake any obligations to participate in further negotiations.
“Russia said that they need some time to respond to these proposals, and now we are waiting for the Russian response,” Stoltenberg explained.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov earlier recalled that Russia needs the US and NATO to respond to every article of the draft documents he proposed on security guarantees.
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian president, added in an interview with CNN that relations between Russia and NATO have approached the red line due to the alliance's advance into Ukraine.
