The PP transcends the meaning of the regional elections in Castilla y León.

It has turned them into one more assault on the general elections against Pedro Sánchez, but it also assumes that they are national elections in which the consolidation of Pablo Casado's leadership and his project to reach La Moncloa is at stake.

Previous months have been very hard for the president of the PP, after being challenged by Isabel Díaz Ayuso on account of the controversy over the celebration of the PP congress in Madrid and seeing how that internal crisis -exacerbated by the wave of popularity of the Madrid leader - had diminished both her figure and her advantage in the polls.

Now, with elections underway and given the relevance they have taken on, the PP closes ranks and conspires to row together around the goal of winning Castilla y León now to then fly Casado to La Moncloa above any difference . The disputes at stake are not resolved, but now there is a truce to leave them parked.

Thus, the congress of the PP of Castilla y León, which is being held this weekend in the capital of León, has become an electoral platform for launching the figures of Alfonso Fernández Mañueco and Casado himself.

The first to get him re-elected as Chairman of the Board.

And to the leader of the PP to help him consolidate the "change in trend" that put the

popular

party ahead of the PSOE for the first time last year after the failed motion in Murcia and, especially, as a result of Ayuso's resounding victory in the Community of Madrid.

"It's not just another election"

That turning point is what the PP is now looking for in the meeting on February 13 to recover that momentum. The general secretary of the

popular

party , Teodoro García Egea, raised it this Saturday as such: "The PP and Spain are playing to consolidate the change in trend that we already started a few months ago and consolidate the political change in Spain forever," he said, to point to the PP and Casado as the "only solution to the country's problems".

That is the approach given by the PP. "It's not just any election. It's not just another election," he said. They are the political opportunity to deal another blow to the table and that in a few months, either in June or October, it will continue with another victory for Juanma Moreno in Andalusia. Putting three wins in a row on track and making Casado reach 2023 - the year of regional and municipal elections in May and general elections in the fall - fully launched and reinforced to fight in a final duel against Pedro Sánchez.

In this strategy, Genoa's obsession is turning off the noise around the pulse with Ayuso, as well as settling the debate on the solvency of the Casado project.

Well, this Saturday he managed to get the PP to project a clear and resounding message that there is a "united" alternative to end Sánchez's "nightmare" and that the country is entering a change of cycle and of opinion.

The power of that message was given by seeing the five regional presidents of the PP together on stage (Madrid, Andalusia, Galicia, Castilla y León and Murcia) conspiring to help Mañueco to be re-elected and make Casado president of the Government, regrouping and closing ranks during a round table organized within the acts of the congress of the PP of Castilla y León.

A display of "unity"

Ayuso, Juanma Moreno, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, Fernando López Miras and the host, Mañueco, exhibited harmony and, above all, "unity", what the party needs most now to face the electoral cycle and how it shows that it was one of the concepts more invoked.

Each of the barons expressed their commitment to winning the 13-F and to Casado.

Also Ayuso, who said that "a day for hope, illusion and for the alternative of a PP government with Pablo Casado at the head" was beginning.

The Madrid president delivered the "witness of May 4", which "was not an anecdote", to now "demonstrate that Pedro Sánchez's nightmare has an expiration date and that it was a bad dream".

Despite the harmony and the messages of unity, Ayuso gave Genoa a touch for the fact that the PP congress in Madrid had not yet been held when he began to speak: "Dear colleagues... I was going to say delegates, let's see if we catch it... ".

There were no further references.

Nor crusades by other barons or García Egea.

In this context, it was striking how Feijóo praised the Madrid president.

He said that he had "saved the

match ball

against the PP of Spain when it swept Madrid in May against everyone and everything."

"We are all going to unite in Castilla y León as the first step, one more step to achieve the Government of the nation," he said.

"I'm the next to be examined"

In his turn, the president of the Junta de Andalucía was very explicit about the role played by the elections in Castilla y León so that later he too can achieve a victory in his elections this year: "It is important to me because I am the next in examining me. By God, get a good result and let's have a sufficient majority".

The whole game is at stake and all the regional presidents were willing to throw themselves into the task and get ready to campaign.

The most enthusiastic in verbalizing it was López Miras, who offered to work

full time

, "24 hours a day", to visit "every corner" of Castilla y León to help Mañueco achieve his goal.

In this atmosphere of unity and collaboration, the PP launched the pre-campaign this Saturday, and this Sunday, with the proclamation of Mañueco as president of the party and Casado's speech, it wants to step on the accelerator.
