“The tsunami center of the FBGU “Sakhalin UGMS” until 21:00 on January 15 announced a warning about a possible approach to the Kuril Islands of a tsunami wave with a height of no more than 0.2 meters (0.3 meters for Japan) as a result of the eruption of an underwater volcano in Tonga,” — told the agency.

There is no threat to the population and territory of Russia; two ports in the Yuzhno-Kuril and Kuril urban districts have been notified.

According to the Japan Meteorological Bureau, a threat warning is in effect for the islands of Amami and Tokara in the Pacific Ocean.

“Approximate maximum tsunami wave height: 3 meters,” the agency said.

As it became known earlier, the king of the Polynesian state of Tonga, Aho-Eitu Tupou VI, was evacuated from his palace due to the eruption of the Hunga-Haapai volcano, as well as the tsunami that hit the capital Nukualofa.

A tsunami threat has been declared for the Fiji Islands, the Kingdom of Tonga, American Samoa and New Zealand.
