The process is not expected to have any impact on the Chinese coast.

　　According to the latest monitoring results by the Tsunami Warning Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources of China, the volcanic eruption triggered a local tsunami, and tidal stations such as the Great Barrier Reef in New Zealand and the Eastern Cape near the volcano detected tsunami waves of nearly 1 meter.

　　The Hunga Tonga volcano is located on the subduction boundary between the Pacific plate and the Indo-Australian plate and is part of the Tonga-Kermadek Islands volcanic arc, according to the Tsunami Warning Center of China's Ministry of Natural Resources.

The volcano was formerly a submarine volcano, which formed new islands after erupting in 2009.

The volcano has erupted several times in 2014, 2015, 2019 and 2021.

　　According to global water level monitoring data, the eruption triggered a local tsunami in the nearby waters.

As of 19:00 on January 15, 2022 (Beijing time), tide level stations in New Zealand, Samoa and other countries near the volcano have monitored tsunami waves ranging from 30 cm to 92 cm.

　　The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) issued a tsunami warning for the volcanic tsunami and issued a tsunami warning for the area around the volcanic eruption. It is expected that the tsunami may cause disastrous effects.
