The Japanese and French governments are coordinating to hold foreign and defense ministerial talks, the so-called "2 plus 2", online within the week.

The Government of Japan wants to further deepen cooperation in the security field between the two countries, with China and other countries in mind.

The ministerial talks on foreign affairs and defense between Japan and France, the so-called "2 plus 2", began eight years ago and has been held five times so far.



And the two governments are coordinating to hold ministerial talks online this week, the first since it was held in France in January 2019.



Foreign Minister Hayashi and Defense Minister Kishi will attend from Japan, and Foreign Minister Ludrian and Defense Minister Parli from France will attend to discuss common issues and regional conditions in foreign affairs and defense.



The Government of Japan shared the recognition toward the realization of a "free and open Indo-Pacific" with China, which is strengthening its marine advancement, in mind, and promoted joint training by the Self-Defense Forces and the French Army in this region. We would like to confirm cooperation in economic security and further deepen cooperation in the security field of both countries.
