Beijing reports first omicron case 3 weeks before the start of the Olympics

Bloomberg News Agency reported that the Chinese capital, Beijing, recorded the first case of a mutant Corona virus (Omicron), to increase pressure on the Chinese authorities, three weeks before the start of the Winter Olympics.

And officials confirmed in a press conference today, Saturday, the discovery of the first case of a highly contagious Omicron mutant.

These officials made it clear that those in contact with the infected person are subject to tests to detect the virus, while they called on everyone who was in the places visited by this infected person, to communicate with the authorities.

The authorities in Shanghai and Guangdong Province also confirmed earlier today that they had recorded cases of the Omicron mutant, as the National Health Commission warned of the discovery of potential outbreaks in those areas.

The Chinese government stressed that the outbreak of infections with the Omicron mutant has not yet affected its plans to hold the Winter Olympics on time.

Yesterday, Friday, China had detected 104 local cases of coronavirus, as closures were imposed in regions including Xi'an, Tianjin, Zhengzhou and Shenzhen.

An official in the National Health Committee said earlier today that the precautionary measures are bearing fruit in containing infections with the Omicron mutant.

The Winter Olympics are scheduled to begin on February 4 in Beijing.

China pledged to make all preparations for the Olympic Games in a simple, safe and splendid spectacle, unlike the spectacular spectacle of the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing.
