After the demonstration on Thursday January 13 against the military regime which ended in new violence, the authorities say they have arrested a man responsible for the murder of a police general during this rally in Khartoum.

The police have indeed announced for the first time a death in their ranks accusing the demonstrators of violence.

But on the side of the challenge, the news is greeted with great skepticism.

General Ali Bareema Hamad died "

in the exercise of his duties, securing a demonstration

" said the police on his Facebook account.

He was "

stabbed to death by protesters

," added the police spokesperson, without giving further details.

From Thursday evening the head of the army, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan paid tribute to him.

The next day the Minister of the Interior said that a man suspected of being the author of the crime had been arrested and that other suspects were being sought.

Information received with great suspicion from the side of the demonstrators, who evoke attempts to infiltrate their movement by members of the security forces, responsible for inciting violence to discredit the protest.

A plausible hypothesis according to a Sudanese researcher.

Some details raise questions: the announcement of this death which occurred even before the demonstration started, no photo of the deceased and the highly publicized visit by General Burhan to the family of the deceased policeman.

The military could be manipulating Sudanese public opinion, but also the international community, adds this researcher.
