The case had earned him the title of the most hated man in America.

The "pharma bro" Martin Shkreli, who had multiplied by 55 the price of a drug used to treat toxoplasmosis in 2015, was sentenced on Friday to return $ 64.6 million in profits earned through speculation deemed illegal under the antitrust laws.

He is also banned for life from any position in the pharmaceutical industry.

According to a New York judge, Shkreli, by buying the exclusive rights in the United States for daraprim (trade name of pyrimethamine) and then increasing the price of a tablet from 13.5 to 750 dollars, abused his dominant position, in particular by blocking the arrival of generics.

The sum will have to be returned to several States which had lodged a complaint and which will be responsible for compensating the victims.

The Wall Street bad boy, who had notably drawn the wrath of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign, also distinguished himself by exclusively buying a Wu-Tang Can album never marketed for 2 million dollars.

He was then suspended by Twitter for harassing a journalist.

Above all, Martin Shkreli was sentenced to 7 years in prison in 2018 for bank fraud in another case.

He could be eligible for parole next November.
