He noted that a high rise in the incidence of coronavirus due to the omicron strain is expected in the country.

“I think that by the end of January, omicron will, of course, become the main dominant strain in Russia,” Logunov said. 

The specialist emphasized the importance of revaccination against COVID-19.

“Boosting does increase the virus-neutralizing efficacy of sera…” he said.

According to him, regulators in all countries of the world have taken the path of boosting in order to “shrink the window of opportunity for the virus to realize its pathogenic potential.”

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that the omicron strain of coronavirus is expected to displace the delta variant of the infection that is dominant in Russia.
