From 4 o'clock on Friday morning, several train sections in Skåne, Blekinge and Småland will be closed.

The reason is that storm Gyda brings strong winds over southern Sweden, and that these winds can cut down trees over the train tracks.

- Based on the assessment we have made, we feel that there is a great risk that trees will fall and then it is simply a safety measure, says Annika Canaki, department manager at the Swedish Transport Administration in the southern region.

No warning from SMHI

But according to SMHI, the wind speed will not reach storm surges more than briefly and locally.

They have not issued any warning, nor do they plan to do so.

According to SVT's meteorologist Nils Holmqvist, storm Gyda will not hit southern Sweden as hard as it did in Norway.

It will mostly be felt by strong winds that culminate during Friday morning.

- And then later in the day it subsides.

But it will be windy all day, he says.

Depends on several different parameters

The Swedish Transport Administration considers more parameters than weather warnings in its assessment of stopping train traffic.

- SMHI's warnings and forecasts are the basis on which we proceed.

But then we also look at wind speed, wind directions and how our railway is located.

If, for example, it is very close to the coast or located in the forest, says Annika Cannaki.
