The tense security situation between Russia and the West has been high on the international agenda during the week.

Today, a meeting is being held between the member states of the OSCE, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Vienna and a meeting between the EU Foreign and Defense Ministers.

Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S), who is now on her way to the meeting, describes the security situation as more serious than in a very long time.

- We will discuss the situation and the EU's defense and security policy.

It is very important that we are united, she says in Morgonstudion.

Russian demands on NATO

The background is the Russian military escalation at the Ukrainian border.

Moscow has made demands on the United States and NATO, which include that several countries, including Sweden, should not join the defense alliance.

A bilateral meeting between US and Russian representatives was held in Geneva on Monday, and talks between the NATO-Russia defense alliance and Brussels were held yesterday in Brussels.

"Not relevant now"

Ann Linde believes that Sweden should not make any rapid changes in the security policy line and that the military freedom of alliance has served us well.

At the same time, she emphasizes the importance of Sweden deciding what is best for us in terms of security policy.

- We do it, Russia does not, she says.

Can it become relevant with a membership in NATO?

- It is not relevant now but the important thing is that we decide it ourselves.

The military freedom of alliance serves us very well.

We work very closely with Finland, I talk to the Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs almost every week and we prepare meetings like this together.
