Born in Périgueux, this trained doctor was very quickly fascinated in the 1950s by the cave known worldwide for its cave art, to the point of becoming, with his wife Brigitte, doctors in prehistory.

These disciples of the prehistorian André Leroi-Ghouran had participated in the creation of Lascaux 2, opened in 1983, before becoming much later scientific advisers for the traveling exhibition Lascaux 3.

For the president of the Historical and Archaeological Society of Périgord (SAHP), Dominique Audrerie, "Gilles and Béatrice were high quality researchers, recognized by the scientific community for their work but also formidable educators who knew how to speak to a wider audience" .

These two members of the prehistory laboratory of the National Museum of Natural History in Paris have written around fifty books and published around one hundred articles on the subject.

As a speleologist, Gilles Delluc had also participated in the discovery of several underground cavities in Périgord bearing traces of Cro-Magnon man.
