In Jönköping County, eight people died in the traffic, seven men and one woman.

Two of them were under 18 and one person was 65 or older.

One of the most serious accidents was the one outside Vetlanda at the county border to Kronoberg where three young boys died while on their way to a football match in Kalmar.

Four people were injured in single accidents, three people in a meeting and one of them in a collision with game.

Of the dead, five traveled by car and three people rode a motorcycle.

Reduction in the number of fatal accidents in the country

Across the country, 192 people died in accidents on Swedish roads in 2021. That is 12 fewer than in 2020. The most common type of accident in the whole country among motorists is meeting accidents and the second most common is single accidents.

- The trend is in the right direction when it comes to fatalities in road traffic.

This is the first time that the number of fatalities is less than 200. It is above all the accidents with cars that have decreased, says Jonas Bjelfvenstam, who is the Swedish Transport Agency's director general, in a press release.
