A Libyan official asked his country's government to adopt the Amazigh New Year, to be an official holiday on the entire Libyan soil, similar to the rest of the national holidays and occasions approved in Libya.

Today, Tuesday, the mayor of Zuwara sent a request to the Council of Ministers of the Interim National Unity Government in Libya, through a letter addressed to the Minister of Local Government, Badr El-Din Al-Toumi.

In his request, the mayor of Zuwara appealed to the Libyan minister to address the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, regarding "the adoption of the Amazigh New Year to be an official holiday in the entire Libyan territory, similar to the rest of the national holidays and occasions," according to the "gateway to the center" website.

The source noted that the Dean of Zuwara Municipality had issued Resolution No. (1) for the year 2972 ​​Amazigh corresponding to 2022 AD, which falls on Thursday, January 13, and which considered this day an official holiday in all public institutions and bodies within the scope of Zuwara Municipality Grand.

The source indicated that historians are divided over the origin of the celebration of the Amazigh New Year into two groups, as the first group believes that choosing this date from January symbolizes the celebrations of the farmers with the land and agriculture.

As for the second group, on this day, the memory of the victory of the Berber king "Shashnak" over the Egyptian king, Ramses II, in a battle that took place on the banks of the Nile in 950 BC.
