It was in February last year that biologist Joe Davis found the fossil of an ichthyosaur in Rutland Water, in southeastern Englad, reports Reuters.

- The find is completely fascinating and a highlight of his career, it is good to learn so much from a discovery and to think that this fantastic creature once swam in the oceans above us, says Joe Davis.

The ichthyosaur was a sea reptile, shaped like a dolphin, and could grow up to 25 meters long.

They lived during the Jurassic era.

The fossil found at Rutland Water is the largest find of its kind in Britain.

It is believed to be 180 million years old.

The species became extinct 90 million years ago.
