An analysis came out that US President Joe Biden was the most stingy of recent presidents at an official press conference or media interview.

The Associated Press reported on the 9th (local time) based on an analysis by Martha Joint Kumar, a professor of political science at Towson University in Maryland.

Since taking office in January of last year, Biden has conducted 22 media interviews through the end of the year.

This was less than the previous five presidents, Donald Trump (92), Barack Obama (156), George W. Bush (49), Bill Clinton (54) and George HW Bush (46).

President Biden held nine press conferences.

This is also far below the former presidents Trump (22 times), Obama (27 times), son Bush (19 times), Clinton (38 times), and father Bush (31 times).

President Biden met more frequently than former President Ronald Reagan, as Reagan's first year in office in 1981, when he was attempted assassination, drastically cut his external schedule.

Instead, that year, Reagan had 59 media interviews, more than Biden.

President Biden's first press conference was held on March 25, last year, more than two months after he took office, which was also later than that of his predecessor.

Instead, President Biden preferred an informal Q&A with reporters gathered at the White House right after the event or on the move rather than a formal meeting or interview.

This impromptu question-and-answer session was held 216 times, the second most after former President Clinton, who did 245 times.

Trump 120 times, Obama 46 times, Son Bush 144 times, Father Bush 58 times.

The Associated Press said President Biden has promised to be the most transparent administration, but faces doubts that the White House is missing out on an opportunity to lift the veil over administration and explain its agenda to the public.

"Short questions and answers are insufficient to document the president's views on public interest," said Stephen Portnoy, the head of the White House Correspondent's Office.

In fact, it is known that the Correspondents have complained to the White House that President Biden needs more interviews and press conferences.

There has also been criticism of Biden's frequent interviews with celebrities on social media and YouTube compared to other presidents.

Brian Ott, a professor at Missouri State University, said that while Biden's agenda is popular with many Americans, his low approval ratings may be due to his few interviews and mainstream media interviews.

It means you can't really drive your agenda without going through the mainstream media.

In response, the White House countered that Biden was not evading questions at events, etc., and that this was evidence of the transparency he was talking about.

He also explained that the COVID-19 pandemic situation had an impact on the number of meetings and interviews.

But an informal, impromptu question-and-answer format is not ideal, as President Biden either ends up with a short answer or doesn't answer at all, the AP pointed out.
