• Sánchez Government, to the rescue: defends that the PSOE is with the ranchers and asks to "pitch in" with the labor reform

  • Primary sector The Alberto Garzón scandal points to United We Can in the interior Spain

Three concerns and an uncertain horizon. The imminent elections in

Castilla y León

, the lack of support to validate the labor reform and the rise in the price of electricity mark the start of the year of a government that relies on employment figures to compensate for the wear and tear shown by the polls. An erosion that Pedro Sánchez denies, who claims to arrive at the halfway point of the legislature with "strength" and in full "strength" of the project that the PSOE and United We can lead, despite the complications of the pandemic, for just two years. "This government has not given up," the president celebrated yesterday during his speech at the Socialist Federal Committee.

A campaign that catches the Executive with a changed foot, before which the PP threatens to consolidate its upward trend in the national political panorama and on which the controversy around the intensive cattle ranching unleashed by Alberto Garzón has accelerated times even more. In fact, the PSOE has had to show its own profile in the last hours and after pressure from the socialist barons to prevent the pulse of the Minister of Consumption from damaging it electorally in Castilla y León.

"The PSOE complies with our primary sector, with our farmers and ranchers, approving the CAP and also approving the food chain law," said Sánchez in a contained but studied way: within the list of advances in this legislature, those related to field were mentioned in fourth place in a list of more than twenty achievements.

Sánchez will try to export this climate to the campaign in Castilla y León.

The president will accompany, tomorrow in

Palencia

,

Luis Tudanca

, for whom yesterday he barely had a few formal words despite the fact that one of the reasons for the Federal Committee was to endorse him as a candidate.

He did not mention the victory in 2019 or bet on that front, where expectations are not positive.

Even less after the Garzón scandal, which wears Sánchez down, powerless to make changes in the purple part of the government.

As proof that the head of Consumption charges the PSOE, tomorrow it is expected that farmers and ranchers will demonstrate at the Sanchez rally in Palencia.

Dispatch, with a formal tone, the proclamation as candidate of Tudanca

Parallel to the pre-campaign of 13-F, parliamentary activity will be resumed and, with it, the labor reform must achieve the validation of the Lower House. The Government is unable to convince key partners, ERC, EH Bildu or the BNG. Yesterday, while Sánchez - who celebrated the "agreement" reached by Yolanda Díaz between employers and unions as his own -, EH Bildu regretted that the Government, for the moment, has not contacted them to negotiate the labor reform.

Thus, one of the great political bastions of recent months for the Government - together with vaccination and the arrival of European funds - is, for the moment, in limbo.

Of whom Sánchez does not have any guarantee of obtaining support, despite the fact that he asks them to "pitch in", is from the opposition.

"What interests does the opposition defend if it resists defending the interests of employers and workers?" He challenged the PP yesterday.

For the president, the country is going through a fruitful stage - above all, due to the employment data - and the opposition is unworthy, however, that does not translate into demonstration support.

The date of 13-F

The doubt about "what puts the PP above the interests of Spain" emerges as one of the arguments that the PSOE can wave against Alfonso Fernández Mañueco on 13-F. And also, again, the fear of the "extreme right" with which the popular could arm the regional Executive. According to Sánchez, the leader of the opposition is already "hostage" to those of Santiago Abascal and the trend can be repeated throughout Spanish politics.

However, and despite the fact that the socialist leader has started 2022 praising that the Government is synonymous with "certainties" and objectives achieved, in the campaign - and in the months that follow - the president will have to face the runaway price of the bill for the light and his outdated promise that Spaniards would pay at this time the same as in 2018. Yesterday, Sánchez "opposed" the European proposal to consider gas and nuclear green energy, and promised to promote renewables "against the tensions in the wholesale prices of gas and electricity ».
