The herdsmen's husband and wife were wrapped in quilts and coats and sat at home in shock. Although the house was severely damaged, fortunately, the family of four was not injured.

  According to the Qinghai Seismological Network: At 01:45 on January 8, an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 occurred in Menyuan County, Haibeizhou, Qinghai (37.77 degrees north latitude, 101.26 degrees east longitude), with a focal depth of 10 kilometers.

  The villages within 5 kilometers of the earthquake are Susugou, Qingshazhang, Sheliwan, Zhonggou and Daganshahe, and the townships within 20 kilometers are Huangcheng Mongolian Township.

The epicenter was 53 kilometers away from Menyuan Hui Autonomous County and 136 kilometers away from Xining City.

  "We went to bed at 8 o'clock in the evening. We were already asleep during the earthquake. The composite board on the roof fell and hit my chest. I could feel the house vibrate, but I just couldn't get up. It felt like I was being pressed by sand." The 36-year-old sister He Cai told reporters that she felt nothing serious after a few minutes of rest.

  The reporter saw at the home of Sister He Cai and Jian Mushen that the glass seal was broken in many places, cracks about 1 cm wide appeared in many places on the wall, and some of the wall tiles fell off.

  "The roof tiles fell off a lot, and the cables were shaken. Now there is no electricity in the house." Jian Mushen said that there were three aftershocks around 2:00 in the morning, and the tremor was strong. The table at home kept shaking. The teacup and bowl fell to the ground, and the little lamb ran out of the sheepfold after being frightened.
