On Friday, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg held a telephone meeting to discuss Russia's military advances near Ukraine's border.

Want to deepen the partnership

"Thank you to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg for our conversation on the importance of maintaining the European security order and deepening the partnership between Sweden and NATO," the Prime Minister wrote on Twitter after the meeting.

Stoltenberg is also pleased with the meeting and writes on Twitter:

"Good conversation with Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson where we discussed Russia's military structure in and around Ukraine and European security.

Sweden is an esteemed NATO partner and we support the right of all countries to choose their security arrangement ”.

Military escalation

The tense situation has arisen since Russia gathered tens of thousands of soldiers at the border with Ukraine in late autumn.

Russia has also demanded that more countries not join NATO.

Next week, representatives from Russia will meet in three separate meetings with representatives from the United States, NATO and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
