The African continent has crossed the threshold of 10 million recorded cases of Covid-19, while Europe continues to record records, in conjunction with the World Health Organization warning of a huge and rapid tsunami of corona infections that confuse health systems around the world.

At least 400,000 injuries were recorded during the past seven days in Africa, with an average of 44,501 injuries per day.

In recent days, the brown continent has witnessed unprecedented levels of infection since the emergence of the pandemic, which reached its peak between December 29, 2021, and January 4, 2022.

The current wave began in the brown continent, which is the fourth, just days after the mutant Omicron was first detected in late November 2021 in Botswana and South Africa.

The last two countries are still the most affected in Africa in terms of absolute numbers, recording together about 3 million and 500 thousand injuries as of January 6.

According to the French press agency, out of 54 countries and regions on the African continent, 8 of them have recorded in recent days the highest number of weekly injuries since the beginning of the epidemic, namely Mauritania, Cape Verde, Guinea, Mali, Ivory Coast, Burundi, Mozambique and Zambia.

Europe

In Britain, health authorities recorded 195,235 new infections with the Corona virus during the past 24 hours, and the country recorded 344 new deaths, according to data from the American Johns Hopkins University yesterday, Thursday.

In France, the Corona pandemic has become a political issue, at a time when the country recorded a record number of daily infections with the Corona virus, which is the highest in Europe.

The authorities are trying to contain the outbreak of the Omicron mutant, after the country recorded 332,252 new infections.

And in Germany, the German Robert Koch Institute announced yesterday morning a new increase in the weekly infection rate of the emerging corona virus.

China

Today, Friday, the National Health Committee of China announced that 174 new confirmed cases of the Corona virus had been recorded yesterday, Thursday, compared to 189 the day before.

The committee said in a statement that 116 of the new infections were transmitted locally, compared to 132 the day before.

Most of the new local infections were recorded in Henan and Shaanxi provinces, and Zhejiang Province also recorded new cases.

China recorded 45 new asymptomatic cases, unchanged from the number recorded the previous day.

China does not classify these cases as confirmed cases.

As of the end of Thursday, the mainland of China recorded 103,295 confirmed cases.

The country did not record any new deaths, keeping the number constant at 4,636.

tsunami

For his part, the Director of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced that what he described as the tsunami of Corona injuries is huge and rapid and confuses health systems around the world.

Ghebreyesus said that 109 countries will miss the goal of vaccinating 70 percent of their population by next July, given the current vaccinations.

He added that the Omicron mutant appears to be less dangerous compared to Delta, but should not be classified as mild.

Ghebreyesus explained that the Omicron mutant has a milder effect on people vaccinated with anti-coronavirus vaccines in particular, compared to the Delta mutant.

He added, "The Omicron mutant cannot be described as having a mild effect. Like the previous mutant, it enters the injured to hospitals and kills people."

Vaccines are effective

For her part, Maria Van Kerkhove, leader of the World Health Organization team to combat "Covid-19", confirmed that all current anti-Corona vaccines are effective against the Omicron mutant.

She added that thanks to vaccinations in general, the Omicron mutant has not become more dangerous, and she called on everyone again to get their vaccines.

The figures indicate that more than 297 million people have been infected with the emerging coronavirus worldwide, while the total number of deaths resulting from the virus has reached 5 million and 817 thousand.

Infections with the virus have been recorded in more than 210 countries and regions since the first cases were discovered in China in December 2019.
