The metro ticket remains in our stations!

The end of the sale of paper T + tickets, initially planned for the month of March, has been postponed to September 2022, reports

Le Parisien

.

Due to a worldwide shortage of electronic chips, present in Navigo cards, Ile-de-France Mobilités is pushing back the date by six months.

“As is the case with the automotive industry, there is tension on the supply and stocks of chips, explains Île-de-France Mobilités on a daily basis.

We are not in a situation of shortage for Navigo cards, but we must anticipate to manage stocks.

The cardboard ticket still widely used

To limit the environmental impact, Ile-de-France Mobilités has decided to end the sale of cardboard metro tickets.

Instead, occasional travelers can opt for the “Freedom +” formula or buy a “Navigo Easy” Pass, which can be recharged with a book of dematerialized tickets.

This pass should therefore see its sales explode with the end of the cardboard metro ticket, still used by 60% of occasional travelers.

In the midst of a global shortage affecting the supply of microchips, this increase risks straining the inventory of available badges.

Ile-de-France Mobilités has therefore decided to postpone the end of the sale of cardboard tickets for six months.

Open the metro doors with a smartphone

From May 2022, Android users will be able to get rid of electronic badges as well as cardboard tickets thanks to on-board HCE technology.

By purchasing their tickets in the IDF Mobilités, RATP Bonjour or SNCF application, these users will be able to open the metro doors using their smartphones.

But complete dematerialization is not for now: the final end of the cardboard ticket will not take place until 2025. Until then, it will still be sold individually (1.90 euros) or for journeys from Paris to the suburbs.
