The New Zealand pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai revealed the activities of the "Taste of New Zealand" festival, which begins on the 13th of this month, and will last for three weeks, and will showcase the most delicious food and drinks from this country.

A group of celebrity chefs, including: Sed Sahrawat, Karina and Casey Bird, and Dubai-based chef Jesse Blake, will participate in the event, as they will demonstrate their skills in food preparation, highlighting premium ingredients from New Zealand.

In its first week, Taste of New Zealand will be attended by Chef Sad Sahrawat, who is known for his innovative style, combining contemporary cuisine with traditional Indian flavours.

“I am looking forward to my participation in (Expo 2020 Dubai), and I am very proud to be able to show the world my own view of cooking, using great ingredients from New Zealand,” Sahrawat said.

He added, “This is an opportunity for us to showcase how our country possesses some of the best products, which are cultivated and produced with care and attention.

The result is excellent flavour, and unparalleled quality.”

To participate in the festival, Sahrawat created a special dish, "Hawkes Bay" lamb chops with fresh cream.

Sisters Karina and Casey Bird, winners of the New Zealand Chef Competition, will attend the festival from 26-31 January.

Growing up in the beautiful beachfront community of Makito, a place where the community grows and supplies fresh seasonal produce, Karina and Casey have turned their passion for cooking into a distinguished career, giving them a platform to create dishes that celebrate their Māori background and culture.

Karina said: “Food, drinking and caring for the earth (mankee) are an ingrained part of New Zealand culture.

We are excited to be part of a global event like (Expo 2020), to bring our own experiences to life, through unique events and moments for visitors to the exhibition.”

Casey said she hopes she can show visitors to the event New Zealand's strong connection to land and sea, and what makes this country special.

The two sisters created a custom-made dinner for the festival, inspired by the story of the constellation that marks the beginning of the Maori New Year.

Chef Jesse Blake will also participate in the festival, and he will serve a dish of New Zealand lobster.

For his part, Commissioner-General of the New Zealand Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, Clayton Kimpton, said: “Food and beverages are the main export sector for our country, and presenting the (Taste of New Zealand) festival at the exhibition is an opportunity to showcase our products, and to revive the main theme of our pavilion, which is caring for people and place. ».
