In mid-December, a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of aggravated child rape.

The criminal suspicion goes back several years, starting on the day he turned 15 - and thus became a criminal - and three years ahead.

- This was a preliminary investigation that I already had in 2020. It was not reported by the girl herself and she did not want to participate in the investigation.

But at the end of 2021, she wanted to tell and then the preliminary investigation was resumed, says prosecutor Mia Sjöstedt.

The girl is today under 15 years old, according to the prosecutor, which means that she must have been under ten years old when the abuse should have started.

The crimes must have taken place in Uppsala County.

- I do not want to state her exact age because it is strict preliminary investigation confidentiality.

The parties have lived together, more than that I can not comment, says Mia Sjöstedt.

The crime period is set from the day the suspect turned 15 - should it have taken place before that?

- If you commit a crime before you are 15 years old, you can initiate an investigation into young offenders, but in this case we have considered that it was not necessary because it continued when he was a criminal.

On Monday, the man, who denies the crime, was released from custody.

He is still a suspect.

- I have no comments at all, says the man's lawyer Marcus Larsson.
