• Changes and novelties are expected in the Lyon metropolis this year, starting with the lowering of traffic speed in Lyon from March 30.

  • At the end of the first semester, we should in particular know which metro project will be deemed essential for Sytral.

And if the cable car connecting Francheville to Lyon is maintained.

  • At the start of September, vegetarian menus will also be offered every day in the canteens of Lyon.

In this new year, what changes can we expect in Lyon and in the metropolis?

While it will be necessary to wait until 2023 for the delivery of major projects, certain measures and decisions, which will be taken or will come into force in the coming months, will have an impact on the daily lives of residents.

Here is the non-exhaustive list of projects that will come to fruition in 2022.

Generalized speed at 30 km / h

As they had committed to in their program during the electoral campaign, environmentalists will shift gear to make Lyon "a peaceful city" and limit the effects of pollution.

As of March 30, the traffic speed will be lowered to 30 km / h.

Certain axes, which have not yet been defined, will however benefit from an exemption and will remain at 50 km / h.

But, they will be in the minority.

This “Ville 30” measure, already in place in Oullins and Poleymieux, should also be applied to La Mulatière during the year.

The start of a long transition.

The Métropole de Lyon aims to change a large part of its territories.

The desired objective for the end of the mandate: that two thirds of the inhabitants reside in a municipality at 30 km / h.

Prohibition of the most polluting vehicles

A new step will be taken on July 31 in the creation of the ZFE, a low-emission zone.

All cars with a Crit'Air 5 sticker or without a sticker will no longer be authorized to drive in the center of Lyon, in Villeurbanne, Vénissieux, Caluire and Bron.

This will concern a little less than 20,000 vehicles out of the 700,000 currently listed.

However, exemptions will be granted and financial aid, the amounts of which have not been specified, will be offered to individuals and professionals to change their cars.

The metropolis of Lyon has set a deadline: no more Diesel vehicles (except Crit'Air 0 and 1) on January 1, 2026.

The metro E and the cable car fixed on their fate

Launched last fall, the public consultation on the development of the metro made it possible to rule out two of the four projects carried by Sytral. A priori there will be no extension of line D to the Duchère district in Lyon, nor of line A to Meyzieu. Two projects remain in competition: the extension of line B to Rillieux-la-Pape and the creation of the future line E to serve the west of Lyon, which environmentalists initially wanted to abandon. Which metro will be considered the most relevant and the most essential for the metropolis of Lyon? The answer should come at the end of the first semester.

The fate of the cable car project linking Francheville to Lyon should also be sealed during the same period.

Ardently defended by elected environmentalists, this mode of air transport is yet overwhelmingly rejected by the inhabitants of the municipalities or neighborhoods concerned.

Public consultation, also launched in the fall, will be decisive.

Sytral has let it be known that it would be ready to abandon the case if the opposition proves to be strong throughout the metropolitan territory.

50% organic and vegetarian menus in Lyon canteens

From January, a new service provider will be appointed for school restaurants in Lyon.

"The products used by the service provider will come from a local supply", specifies the town hall.

Organic products will be gradually introduced on the plates by the end of the mandate.

With targets already determined: 50% for 2022, at least 75% in four years.

From September, families will be offered two different menus for their children: one with meat or fish, the other entirely vegetarian.

Compost and afforestation

This is one of the novelties of this year: compost will be generalized. The experiment, carried out in the fall, was deemed conclusive by the metropolis, which will deploy compost terminals in the condominiums of the 9th arrondissement of Lyon and Villeurbanne. 20,000 individual composters will also be distributed free of charge to residents who request them. In addition, the community intends to continue its revegetation plan. Three to four woodlots, "small forests" will be planted Corbas and Feyzin, in particular. This represents an area of 18,000 square meters, or three times the place of Terreaux. In Lyon, the Rosary Garden, located at the foot of the Fourvière basilica, will be renovated. On the heights of the hill, this time, the contours of the future Balmes park will be revealed during the year.

The reopening of Marché Gare, an ephemeral swimming pool in Gerland

Under construction since 2018, the former Lyon wholesale market, converted into a concert hall, is due to reopen this year.

The date has not been fixed, however.

The gauge will go from 300 to 400 places.

The Gerland swimming pool, which now belongs to Lou Rugby, is due to resume in the summer of 2023. In the meantime, an ephemeral swimming pool similar to that of the Tête d'Or park should be installed provisionally next summer.
