The latest stealth fighter F-35A of the Korean Air Force has landed with the fuselage instead of the wheels. The Air Force determined that the landing gear, the landing gear, did not work due to an electronic system error, and halted the operation of the aircraft altogether.

Reporter Kim Tae-hoon reports.

Korean Air Force F-35A took off from the Cheongju base.

An electronic system abnormality was detected during the flight, so it decided to return to the base and turned the nose.

However, the electronic signal did not work even in the landing gear, which is the landing gear.

Wheel landing became impossible.

The Air Force and the Ministry of Defense are in emergency.

Even the worst case was assumed, in which only the pilot escaped and the 100 billion won fighter crashed into the sea.

A fuselage landing has emerged as an alternative while the fighters continue to orbit while awaiting a decision.

A stumbling block was that our fighters had no fuselage landing experience since the Phantom plane in 1999, but in the end, the military chose to 'bubble runway landing'.

When the fuselage is landed, the fighter is ignited by strong frictional heat, but the impact can be reduced by applying thick special foam to the runway.

The F-35A landed on the runway at Seosan Air Base, which was quickly covered with foam, at around 12:51 noon.

The Air Force said the pilot was healthy enough to walk out on his own and the damage to the aircraft was minimal.

[Lee Wang-geun/Former Air Force Chief of Staff: (The landing of the fuselage) was a rare situation, but since the pilot has been practicing a lot through the simulator and training like a real battle, I

became a perfect one with the ground personnel (successfully)]

Among the F-35A deployed in the world, there have been a couple of cases where the landing gear was broken during the landing process, but this is the first time that the fuselage has landed due to malfunction of the landing gear.

The Air Force will work with manufacturer Lockheed Martin to determine the cause.

All 40 F-35A flights will be suspended until results are available.
