About 1500 people gathered at Vattentorget in Växjö to celebrate the new year.
Police sent five patrols to the scene to check that no one was injured and to ensure that a nearby road was free of emergency vehicles from the hospital.
Masked young people
When police arrived at the scene, they were stopped by masked youths who threw fireworks at them.
A private person received a piece in the face and a wound injury as a result.

In connection with the incident, Växjö Police has drawn up a report of blue light sabotage.
A report of causing bodily harm has also been made by the public.
