An adult living in the apartment woke up to the bang, but thought it was fireworks.
It was only on Sunday morning that it was discovered that it had become cold in the apartment, because a window in the bedroom had been smashed by the bullets.
- There are traces of two bullets in the ceiling and remnants of bullets in the bedroom where the child slept, says Mats Öhman, the police's press spokesperson.
No one was physically injured in the shooting.
According to the police, there is no threat to the family.
The bullet remains found in the home are either from a rifle or a pistol.
"Fresh footprints in the snow"
Police were on site on Sunday and conducted a crime scene investigation in the home, which is one floor up, and outside where the shooter was standing.
- We have been there with dog handlers.
There were fresh footprints in the snow below the bedroom window that we could follow for a while, but when we get out on the streets it becomes impossible.
The person has moved in the direction of central Hällefors, says Öhman.
The police have launched a preliminary investigation into illegal threats, gun crime and vandalism, but no person has been arrested.
