Here they are fenced with lightsaber in the square

On Sunday, representatives from Ludosport Helsingborg and Malmö were on site at Stortorget in Malmö to give interested parties a chance to try the dueling sport.

The activity is part of the 12-day game festival Vinterspelen organized by the city of Malmö.

So far, Ludosport is not recognized as a sport in Sweden, but the association Ludosport Sweden is struggling to change that.

- I guess it's because it's quite new, and all new sports have a certain starting distance before they are accepted, says Johan Engkvist, who practices the sport at Ludosport Helsingborg.

And the goal is not entirely unattainable - in 2019, another form of lightsaber fencing was recognized as a sport by the French fencing federation.

Inspiration from the world of film

It's hard to avoid the sport being inspired by a certain popular film series, but it's not just reserved for fans.

- It is of course easier if you are interested in Star Wars, but it is absolutely not a requirement, says Johan Engkvist, who practices the sport.
