The photos of the bus exploded against a pillar send shivers down your spine ... Five people were killed and 21 injured in a bus accident early Sunday morning south of Moscow, we learned from the Russian authorities.

The accident occurred at around 5:45 am local time (3:45 am Paris time) in the Ryazan region, near the village of Voslebovo about 270 km from the capital, according to the Russian Federal Road Transport Authority.

The driver fell asleep while driving

"Five people were killed and 21 injured," she said on her Telegram account, adding that two of the injured were minors and posting photographs of the damaged vehicle.

The bus, which was carrying 49 people traveling to Moscow from the southern Russian city of Astrakhan, struck a pillar under a railway bridge.

The driver was among those killed.

According to a website under the Russian Interior Ministry, he fell asleep while driving.

Police have announced that they have opened an investigation.

Violations of road safety rules are frequent in Russia where several fatal coach accidents have occurred in recent years.

In December 2019, a bus with around 40 passengers on board fell into a frozen river in Siberia's Zabaikalsk region, killing 19 and injuring 21.
