Three days ago, violent clashes took place with the police on the same site.

Migrants were evacuated this Sunday at the beginning of the afternoon, from a land they occupied in Calais, we learned from the authorities and associations.

This operation on the basis of flagrance had "two purposes", according to the deputy prosecutor of Boulogne-sur-Mer, Patrick Leleu: to carry out the evacuation which could not be carried out on Thursday because of the clashes and "if possible questioning ”in connection with this episode.

"Retaliation for what happened on Thursday"

Present on the spot, Emma from the inter-associative network Human Rights Observers (HRO) denounced to AFP a "really violent" expulsion, with a very large number of police and gendarmes, tear gas used "for nothing" and migrants "chased so that they could not take their belongings".

"There was an announcement on the megaphone (of the expulsion, note) by the commissioner of Calais, in French, and, two minutes later, the cordon of CRS was formed, no one had time to recover anything, all but one or two tents were seized!

"She denounced, considering that it was" retaliation for what happened on Thursday ".

Clashes between law enforcement and migrants

The activist reported three arrests, a figure not confirmed by the prosecution in the early afternoon. According to her, around 200 migrants, mostly Sudanese and often minors, lived in this camp, which had already been dismantled several weeks ago.

The site is located near a roundabout where migrants regularly attempt to board heavy goods vehicles in the hope of being able to reach the United Kingdom.

Thursday morning, clashes broke out between security forces and migrants during an attempt to dismantle this camp.

HRO had already denounced that the migrants were prevented from recovering personal effects.

Alain Castanier, secretary general of the prefecture of Pas-de-Calais, reported "15 police officers and 8 gendarmes injured" that day, including a police officer still hospitalized on Sunday, following an open fracture of the tibia.
