Egypt..New developments in the case of the terrorist attack on the Pyramids Hotel

The Egyptian Court of Cassation accepted the appeal of the convicts in the case of the terrorist attack on the Pyramids Hotel, and decided to commute the death sentence of 6 convicts to 10 years in prison, and oblige them to pay criminal expenses.

The court also decided to commute the life sentences of 8 defendants to 5 years, and to annul the sentences of 12 defendants to 10 years in prison, acquitting their innocence.

According to Al-Masry Al-Youm, the Giza Criminal Court sentenced 6 defendants to death by hanging, 8 defendants to life imprisonment, and 12 defendants to 10 years in rigorous imprisonment in the case known in the media as “the attack on the Pyramids Hotel,” and obligated them to pay criminal expenses.

The Public Prosecution charged the defendants with saying that “from mid-2015 to February 13, 2016, they led a group founded in violation of the law, attacked the Pyramids Hotel, possessed firearms and ammunition, as well as committed the crimes of gathering, using force with the police and sabotaging property.”
