China announces positive news about Corona

China announced positive news about infections with the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19) and said that the number of new cases of Covid in the Chinese city of Xi'an fell to its lowest level in a week, health officials announced Sunday on the eleventh day of imposing a strict closure on the city.

China has been implementing a "zero Covid" strategy that includes imposing strict border restrictions and targeted, lightning closure measures since the virus appeared in a central city in late 2019. But this strategy has faced pressure in the past weeks, with local spikes recorded and infections rising.

On Sunday, 122 new injuries were recorded in the historical city in the north, the lowest number of injuries since December 25, compared to 174 cases on Saturday.

After several rounds of virus testing in Xi'an and the effect of the lockdown measures, authorities have begun to monitor "some positive changes," Zhang Shanyu of the China Disease Control Agency told state broadcaster CCTV.

He added, "We will make some adjustments to the prevention and control measures in a timely manner."

But 16 patients had "severe" symptoms, according to the National Health Committee.

While the numbers are considered low compared to other regions, new infections in the past days have risen to levels not recorded by China since March 2020.

Since the ninth of December, more than 1,500 cases of the delta mutant have been recorded in Xi'an, and health officials said at a press conference on Saturday that two of the injured are in critical condition.

China has not recorded any deaths from COVID-19 since January 2021.

Yan Yi, director of the critical care medicine department at Jungda Hospital, confirmed to CCTV that the necessary medical resources are available.

And she added, "We have allocated three hospitals that receive only Covid-19 patients in the province, while the fourth is ready for use."

The ages of the patients in Xi'an ranged between two months and 90 years.

Television scenes showed patients wearing masks as they exercised in hospital departments, where they were led by a doctor wearing a protective suit.

A number of residents of the closed city said earlier this week that they were facing difficulty in finding food, while local officials appealed to residents to "understand the situation and be patient" while the supply problem is addressed.
