National Assizes in Mali: the eagerly awaited final report unveiled on December 30

The conclusions of the National Assembly of the refoundation must be presented Thursday, December 30, at the end of nearly a month of consultations throughout the country.

All socio-professional categories were invited to participate.

According to the authorities, more than 70,000 people have been consulted in recent weeks.

Several dozen political parties, including major parties, refused to take part, as did the armed groups that signed the 2015 peace agreement.

This is the most anticipated announcement of this Thursday morning, December 30: the 

Malian electoral timetable

. In short: the dates of the future presidential and legislative elections, which will put an end to the transition period opened with the

military coup of August 2020

. Initially scheduled for next February, they will take place later. In six months? In two years ? In three years ? Malian citizens and allied states of ECOWAS or the European Union will be fixed in a few hours.

The main institutional reforms to come should also be presented: decentralization, fight against corruption, management of elections, justice, functioning of political parties… Hundreds of proposals were formulated by tens of thousands of participants on very diverse themes.

"Binding" conclusions

The recommendations made at the beginning of the month in the municipalities are raised in the debates organized at the level of the circles, then in the regions, before arriving in Bamako for the national phase of synthesis which ends this Thursday, December 30.

At the end of the day, it was up to a " 

panel of high personalities 

" to produce the final report.

A panel composed of 19 members appointed by the president of the transition,

Colonel Assimi Goïta

, and composed of former ministers, a retired general, senior officials but also lawyers and historians.

The conclusions presented on Thursday will be " 

enforceable 

": the authorities undertake to apply them as they stand.

A monitoring and evaluation mechanism is also planned.
