December 27, 2021 The booster doses of the anti-Covid vaccine for the 16-17 age group and for the frail between 12 and 15 years old, as announced by the Ministry of Health in a circular on Christmas Eve.



After the assessments of the technical-scientific commission of Aifa, the extraordinary commissioner for the Covid emergency Francesco Paolo Figliuolo has extended the possibility of continuing the vaccination campaign with third doses also to "all young people of the 16 and 17 year-olds and for frail subjects in the 12/15 age group at potential risk of severe forms of Covid-19 ". At the moment, only Pfizer vaccine can be used for these categories.



The circular, signed by the director general of prevention of the ministry of health Gianni Rezza, reads: "it is recommended to administer a dose of Pfizer / Biontech Comirnaty vaccine, at a dosage of 30 mcg in 0.3 ml, as a booster ) of a primary cycle, regardless of the vaccine used, to all subjects of the age group 16-17 years and to subjects of the age group 12-15 years with high frailty motivated by concomitant / pre-existing pathologies, with the same timing foreseen for subjects from 18 years of age ".



The pronouncement of the Italian Medicines Agency is expected by the end of January regarding all adolescents between 12-15 years of age.



Furthermore, the circular of the Ministry of Health, in light of the current evidence on the epidemiological impact and to try to contain the virus stroke, also establishes the advance of the interval times between the primary vaccination cycle and the booster dose from 5 to 4. months.

The "start" methods will be decided by Commissioner Figliuolo.
