Anneli Engfors runs Luleå dog center and has room for 41 dogs.

Karin Erkki works for Region North, she is one of those who has been given a place in kindergarten for her two dogs.

"Get activated all day"

Like most dog owners, Karin leaves her pets there in the morning before work begins and then picks up in the afternoon at the end of the working day.

- It's great to have the dogs here.

They are really safe and are activated all day, she says.

It's a bit lively with a lot of shell just as she enters but then the silence settles again over the dog daycare.

- I have had a dog here since 2018. Now I have a young dog who has been trained.

Had this not been the case, they would have been allowed to stay at home and I would have rushed home for lunch, says Karin Erkki.

8,000 dogs - only in Luleå

Anneli Engfors says that today there are about 8,000 dogs in Luleå municipality alone.

The proportion who want to own pets has increased significantly during the pandemic.

When people now have to return to the regular workplace, there is not always the time the dog needs.

- Then problems often arise.

You have to go back to work and need a daycare place, but there are not that many in Luleå municipality and then the dogs stay at home without supervision.

It does not feel good, says Engfors.

Tips before you get a dog

She encourages people who are considering getting a dog to really think twice.

- It's great with a dog, but there will come a day when you may no longer be able to sit at home and work.

A dog often lives between ten and fifteen years.

You should probably think about how you think it will work out when everything is back to more normal routines.
