The Umm Al Quwain Fishermen's Cooperative Society announced the extension of fishing in Umm Al Quwain Khor until January 15th, instead of the end of this December, based on the directives of Sheikh Ali bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Head of Umm Al Quwain Municipality Department.

He explained that among the conditions for fishing in the creek is that the fisherman be a citizen and resident of the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, that his age exceed 18 years, that the length of the fishing boat be 28 feet, and that the engine power be 150 horsepower, noting that fishing is allowed in the creek from three in the afternoon until 6 pm Morning for fishermen using the nets (lekh) method, and from 6 am to 10 pm for fishermen using the gargoor method.

He stated that the requirements and criteria for practicing fishing in Umm Al Quwain Khor, including that the white cork pieces (paints) on fishermen's nets are numbered to identify their owners if they are left at sea so as not to affect the environment and fish wealth, and the number of fishing nets for fish was determined. The net cost of 15 likhs, and the fishing of al-Bayah fish for 20 likhs.

Reducing the fishing time

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cooperative Society of Fishermen in Umm Al Quwain, Jassim Hamid Al Shar, indicated that the period of fishing in the waters of the Creek has been reduced from seven months to five months, due to the limitation of the depletion of fish wealth during the breeding season, so that the fish wealth does not suffer from an imbalance in the stock He added that fishermen cannot be allowed to fish during the breeding season.

He added that fishermen from Umm al-Quwain citizens are allowed to catch all types of fish in the emirate's creek, including al-Bayah, al-Safi, al-Sha'ri, al-Aifah, al-Badah, al-Hamour, al-Qain, al-Anfouz, Umm Dhairs, and al-Qabd.
