In addition, Song Young-gil, chairman of the Democratic Party, and Choi Kang-wook, chairman of the Open Democratic Party, will meet at the National Assembly in the morning of the 26th and officially declare the merger.

After the meeting of the representatives of both parties, the Democratic Party proceeds with internal procedures such as the formation of a mandate for the party and resolutions of the highest and central committees.

The Open Democratic Party will hold voting for all party members for two days from the 29th to the 30th.

Earlier, Democratic presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung announced in an interview with a media outlet at the end of October that he needed a unified passport.

Since then, Rep. Woo Sang-ho of the Democratic Party and former Rep. Bong-ju Jeong of the Open Democratic Party have taken over as the representatives of both parties and have been discussing in detail since the 18th of last month.

The Open Democratic Party, which was created as a proportional representative party during the general election in April last year, currently has three lawmakers, and the 169-seat Democratic Party will have a total of 172 seats when combined.
