Russia: Omicron spreads much faster than previous strains

The Russian Minister of Health, Mikhail Murashko, said that the information collected during the visit of Russian experts to South Africa indicates that the "Omicron" mutant is spreading much faster than previous strains.

He added during a working visit to the Russian city of Rostov on the Don River: "Experts evaluated the clinical course and its characteristics. It turned out that this strain spreads much faster... and it affects the largest number of children."

He indicated - according to what was reported by "RT Arabia", that the course of the disease after infection with the "Omicron" mutant is similar to the symptoms of influenza.

And he stated that the existing test systems for diagnosing the Corona virus are able to detect the mutated "Omicron".

He continued, "We see that all the detection devices for the emerging corona virus that are currently on the market, can also detect the mutant Omicron."

He explained that the effectiveness of the "Sputnik-V" vaccine against the mutant "Omicron" decreased slightly, but reliable protection against this virus appears after receiving a booster dose.
