The Russian Foreign Ministry protested to Japan over the exhibition about the South Kuriles

“On December 17, a representative of the leadership of the Japanese Embassy in Moscow was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

During the conversation, a strong protest was declared to the Japanese side over the opening of an exhibition in Tokyo in early December, ”the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, similar warnings have already been expressed regarding a similar event in 2020.

In November, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi announced his intention to resolve the issue of ownership of the four islands with Russia.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the words of the Japanese prime minister about the Kuril Islands, said that ultimatums only postpone the prospect of resolving this issue.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly spoken about the indisputability of Russia's sovereignty over the Kuriles.
