In the clip you can see how the woman's hands work.

The transplant involved moving two hands from an organ donor to the female patient who lost her hands several years ago after a severe infection.

A total of 15 surgeons worked on the operation, which took 18 hours.

Preparations for the operation lasted for over seven years.

"Beyond expectation"

Now the woman can use her hands to write.

She wants to remain anonymous but tells via SU that she is happy after the operation.

- The grip has improved and the development of the hands continues, she says.

With the operation, Sahlgrenska University Hospital became the Nordic region's only center for hand surgery with the competence to perform double hand transplants.

- The successful double hand transplant has led to increased self-confidence for the entire clinic, says Per Fredrikson, specialist in orthopedics and ST doctor in hand surgery.
