The authority indicated that Abu Dhabi witnessed a remarkable transformation in terms of economic prosperity, and the environment bore some hardship as a result of the development boom witnessed by the emirate, especially that the pace of development was so fast that the infrastructure, environmental controls and the ability to enforce were not always able to keep pace with this rapid progress. Pointing out that it reviewed the current state of the environment, and identified the main pressures and influences to determine its responses for the next five years.

The authority revealed that the key performance indicators by 2025 include 12 indicators, including climate change, air quality, biodiversity, fisheries, marine water quality, awareness, waste management, environmental emergencies, policy plans, legislation, assessments, analysis of research data, and water. subterranean, in addition to the soil.

It indicated that it is working through these indicators to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15% compared to 2016, implementing protection plans for all sectors exposed to climate change, and achieving national air quality standards throughout the year to achieve an average of 90% of the days of the year that meet national air quality standards by the end of the year. In 2025, 90% of the area of ​​current habitats in Abu Dhabi, 21% of the land environment, and 21% of the marine environment as natural reserves, in addition to finding a general improvement in the status of threatened species.

It pointed out that it seeks within the performance indicators to reach 81% of the sustainable exploitation of fisheries, achieve 30% of the average relative size of the fish stock, and achieve a 30% increase in aquaculture production compared to fishing, with full commitment to marine water quality standards, and achieving all special standards. The microbial and public health indicators, as well as the environmental awareness of the partners reached 90%.

The objectives of the key performance indicators included reducing the daily generation rate of municipal solid waste to 4.1 kg per person, diverting 70% of hazardous waste and 39% of non-hazardous solid waste from landfills, and implementing 100% of approved and updated emergency plans for high environmental risks. Implementation of 100% of the planned environmental policies and legislation, access to the percentage of licensed facilities that fully represent environmental conditions to 95%, data analysis and research, and the integration of 70% of the available data via satellite into the environmental database, in addition to the implementation of 100% of the approved research agenda .

The remaining objectives of the performance indicators included reducing the percentage of groundwater extracted annually to 1,770 million cubic meters, achieving 74% in groundwater quality, increasing 50% in the area of ​​groundwater depletion areas, and 9% using groundwater replaced by alternative sources, in addition to achieving 78% In the indicator of compliance with soil quality.

19 Marine and Wildlife Sanctuaries
