It was the ninth of August 2020 that an approximately 1,000 square meter nature area was ravaged by fire.

No person was injured, but according to the verdict in Jönköping District Court, there was some risk of spreading.

The perpetrator himself has said that he felt bad that day and that he had plans to take his own life.

He went out into the woods near the open-air area around Stråken.

Started firing on a stick

He sat down near the railway track and started firing on a stick with the lighter.

After a while he threw away the then glowing stick and he saw that it began to smoke in the grass.

He says in interrogation that he sat and thought, and when the fire started he panicked and left the place.

On the way there, the man lied to a passer-by that he had already alerted the rescue service.

There were flames high up in the trees.

Convicted of a similar crime

The man has previously been convicted of twelve different crimes.

He was convicted last February in this year for illegal identity use, data breach and petty fraud.

In 2011 he was convicted of vandalism after setting a fire and in 2013 for arson.

The district court assesses that the man needs care or treatment to counteract relapse into serious crime.

He is sentenced to probation and that he must undergo care and treatment.

Several fires in Mullsjö

During 2020-2021, there have been a number of fires in the Mullsjö area that are suspected to have been started.

And now one of them has been cleared up.

The now convicted man was also charged on suspicion of another fire in the immediate area the same day.

Then about 100 square meters of forest burned, but here it has not been possible to prove that it was the man who caused it and he is acquitted of that charge.
