• Following a public consultation on the future of the Lyon metro, the first conclusions of the president of Sytral angered metropolitan elected officials.

  • If the construction of a metro line E remains current, the extension of lines A and D do not seem to be favored.

  • Sytral ensures that nothing has been decided yet, and will bring together the elected representatives during a new general committee at the end of the first half of 2022.

The creation of the metro line E, between Tassin-la-Demi-Lune and the center of Lyon, was the subject, along with three other extension projects of lines A, B and D, of a consultation which took place. ended Wednesday, December 15.

Bruno Bernard, president of Sytral, had announced his conclusions the next day.

He was unfavorable to the extension of line A to Meyzieu, which would in particular have facilitated access to Groupama Stadium, arguing that there were "already solutions", even if these would "be improved".

He had also ruled out the extension of the D, from the Vaise station to the Duchère, for the same reasons.

On the other hand, the extension of metro B between Charpennes and Rillieux-la-Pape and the creation of metro E were still under consideration.

Anger in Décines, temperance in the west

The refusal to extend line A had provoked the anger of Laurence Fautra (LR), mayor of Décines and vice-president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, who reacted sharply on Facebook. “We thank Bruno Bernard, president of the Metropolis, for the show of democracy. We are not surprised, the consultation was only a communication campaign to oppose the territories between them. A contempt for populations and for political speech, ”she wrote.

Regarding the service to the west of Lyon, two projects were envisaged: that of the metro E, and that of cable transport, the controversial cable car which is still the subject of a consultation due to end on February 15, 2022. Knowing that only one of these projects will be selected, Cyrille Isaac-Sibille, deputy for the 12th district of the Rhône (Irigny, Oullins, Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, Tassin-la-Demi-Lune), asked the president du Sytral, by open letter, "to wait for the end of the cable transport consultation on February 15, 2022 to decide" on the future of public transport.

As a reminder, the construction of an underground network would incur an expenditure estimated at 2.3 billion euros between 2026 and 2035.

Sytral will organize a commission with all elected officials

"At this stage, no project has been abandoned", specifies the communication service of Sytral, adding that "the public consultation on the metros highlights priority groups in terms of mobility needs: the Rillieux-La-Pape plateau and serving the 5th arrondissement, as well as part of western Lyon. "

This is why Bruno Bernard, who is also president of the Métropole de Lyon, asked for "a general commission bringing together all the elected metropolitan", which will be organized in "the first quarter of 2022 so that each political group can express itself and to give his opinion ".

This commission will also allow "to take stock of the finances to be committed by the communities for each scenario", continues the communication of Sytral, which "hopes to be able to give perspectives before the end of the first half of 2022".
